WordPress is a great platform that I used to build my personal site and other sites. Although I'm not a php guy I was able to build beautiful sites utilizing my design skills and adding awesome widgets that made it easy for customers and companies to communicate effectively.

One of the bigger sites I built using WordPress was my personal site called Simple Certs. Although I didn't get the business off the ground due to having to 2 children during the build, I learned much about web design, marketing, and working with individuals.
